Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister has called on the District and Municipal Chief Executives to create a good working relations with their MPs and traditional rulers to accelerate socio-economic empowerment of the people.

He stated that it would be very difficult for areas where DCEs, MPs and Chiefs were at lodger heads to see development and progress due to lack of peace. Nana Ato Arthur said this when he addressed the monthly meetings of the Municipal and District Chief Executives of the Central region at Agona Swedru.

He said the implementation of policies and programmes of the government could be achieved through them and that it could be done better and effectively if the community leaders get closer.

The Regional Minister said the government’s continuous stay in power would largely depend on the way and manner the Municipal and District Chief executives carry out their programmes.

He said it was unfortunate that District Assemblies solely depend on the Common fund to manage the assemblies and urged them to increase the revenue from the internal generated fund (IGF) for effective administration.

Nana Ato Arthur called for cooperation among DCEs, assembly members and staffs to enable the assembly raise enough revenue to finance more development projects and also reduce poverty among the people.

He urged the DCEs to intensify the educational campaign on the re-denomination of the Cedi to the people at the grassroots to avoid being swindled. Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive for Agona said the conference of the DCEs has afforded them the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues and also exchange ideas.

Mr Richard Anane Adabo, DEC for Upper Denkyira, Chairman of the Association of Municipal and District Chief Executives said the government has put in place good policies and programmes that would help reduce abject poverty confronting the masses.

He said the DCEs also deliberated on the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Youth Employment Programme to see its impact. Mr. Adabo urged DCEs who are at loggerheads with their MPs to bury their differences and co-operate to ensure the rapid development of their areas.
