August is a month for planting and feeding, prepping those plants of yours for the hot season ahead. Here are some tips to get you going…

# Plant Lilium Bulbs, especially our favourite — St. Josephs Lily — for added beauty in summer

# Continue to feed and water your winter and spring flowering annuals and bulbs with Multifeed Flowergro , Bulb Booster or 3:1:5 (26) SR

# Keep up with the watering, your lawn and flowerbeds require a good watering at least once a week, especially Highveld gardens

# Prune your Roses, Hydrangeas, deciduous fruit trees and Citrus trees from mid to end July

# Prune back you summer flowering creepers

# Protect your frost sensitive plants

# Repot indoor and outdoor container plants

# Continue mulching soil with compost, sawdust, bark chips and fallen leaves, this will prevent moisture loss and keep the roots warm during the winter.

# Plant vegetables like cabbage, leeks, onions, moss-curled parsley, Swiss chard and spinach

# Plant flower seedling like pansies, primulas, calendulas, cinerarias and petunias for a little winter cheer

# Have your lawnmower serviced

# Cape gardeners — protect plants from the North Wester by staking them up or protecting them if necessary
