RESIDENTS of Awoshie Last Stop, a suburb of Accra, were yesterday petrified by the gory scene of the lifeless bodies of two suspected lovebirds as they lay some 50 metres apart on the street.

Whereas Irene Amefia Agbi, 27, was shot in the lower part of her left shoulder, just above her breast, the back and on the left hand, Awal Osumanu, 32, took shots on his back and chest.

Their apparels and bodies were stained with blood clots as a swarm of curious bystanders feasted their eyes on them with various speculations making the rounds.

For those who could not contain their emotions, it was time to shed tears.

When DAILY GUIDE reached the crime scene, crime officers from the Anyah, Odorkor Police Stations and Greater Accra Regional headquarters had arrived to undertake routine crime scene procedures as they awaited the arrival of an ambulance to convey the deceased persons to the mortuary.

A relative of Irene, who lives in the vicinity where the deceased lay, told DAILY GUIDE that someone called to inform him that his cousin was lying dead in the street.

He said on reaching the family house where Irene lived with her mother and other relatives, he was told that the lady had been shot dead.

Irene’s mother, Cecilia Watsa Agbenyo had been rushed to hospital after falling unconscious upon hearing the news.

Irene, said to be a trained hairdresser, had turned to trading at the Rawlings’ Park near Makola until her untimely death.

She had a five-year-old son with a man who lives abroad but is currently in town for holidays. DAILY GUIDE was however unable to ascertain his place of residence and name.

A relative of Awal, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on anonymity, said the deceased lived in the vicinity of the crime but left home at 10.00am on Tuesday – a day before the incident.

Since he was noted for returning home late, the relative said, nobody raised eyebrows when he did not turn up.

Awal’s wife, he said, was pregnant and had gone to live with her parents since her delivery period was due.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Awal was a scrap dealer at Galloway, Agbogbloshie, Accra.

The Regional Crime Officer remarked that it appeared that the two were fleeing from an assailant since they were both shot in the back.

A VW Golf IV with registration number GT 1051 S, believed to belong to Awal, was seen parked about 10 metres away from where Irene lay. The front seat of the car bore slippers which appeared to belong to Awal.

The Crime Officer of the Odorkor Police Station, ASP Felix Anyidoho said the assailants might not be robbers since the deceased had their jewelry, mobile phones and other possessions intact.

The Police have begun investigations into the matter.
