Low media coverage for CPP Congress
Posted by on December 15, 2007 at 11:35 am in Live Feed - CPP CongressThe much anticipated resurgence of the People’s Convention Party will need a lot more injection of media works, capital and perhaps ways and means of wooing people, the Ghanaian Journal has observed.
It is barely 24 hours to the National Delegates Congress of the CPP, and our rounds in the Kumasi metropolis, the venue for the programme suggest that the Garden City does not seem to be ready for what observers believe could form the basis of a resurgent CPP.
Perhaps the actors involved in the programme- presidential aspirants and others vying for national positions, except Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the presidential frontrunner, are by their actions also contributing to the low-key posture of the CPP congress.
While Dr. Nduom is all over the airwaves whipping up enthusiasm and public interest in tomorrow’s event, his competitors are locked up in frenzy, questioning the eligibility of his candidature.
Shockingly, radio discussions in Kumasi are ironically devoted to the New Patriotic Party’s national delegate congress that is exactly a week from today.
There is however a certain amount of presence for the CPP congress at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the precise venue of the congress.
The entire edifice of the Great Hall is decorated with posters and banners of the presidential aspirants as well as all other executive nominees.
Presidential front-runner, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom leads the pack in the poster and billboards contest, with his closest rival, Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa on his heels.
Others like Dr. Kweku Osafo, Dr. FWA Akuffo, George Opesika Aggudey and Bright Akwettey complete the exciting pack.
As at six am this morning aides and supporters of the various aspirants were fervently pasting more posters and mounting bill boards.
Dr. Abusaaka, an aspirant to the vice chairmanship slot was sighted pasting his own posters just like Kosi Dede, who is vying for the General Secretary of the CPP.
Although the two gentlemen could not offer any explanation as to why they were pasting their own poster, they however assured the Ghanaian Journal of a good contest tomorrow.
“I enjoy putting and pasting my own posters because it help me identify the right places that I want them to be, nonetheless, I believe we will have a wonderful congress tomorrowâ€, Kosi Dedey disclosed.
So far some delegates from the Upper West Region have started coming.
