Founder and publisher of Business in Africa Group, the parent company of Business and Financial Times, Everest Ekong has died.
Ekong, 47, died in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday 17th January after a short illness.
Co-founder of the CNN African Journalist of the Year Competition and Awards, Ekong, until his untimely death, was based in Johannesburg from where he managed his media interests across Africa.
He founded the African Business Leaders Forum, the continent’s version of the World Economic Forum in 2003.
His 24-year career in journalism spanned electronic and print media as well as event management. Ekong was the first News Editor of West Africa Magazine, previously a London based publication.
During his time at West Africa, Mr Ekong contributed regularly to other media including the BBC World Service, Radio Netherlands, The Voice, a leading UK black newspaper and worked on The Sunday Times insight team investigations.
In 2000, Business in Africa, then London based, acquired the assets of Business and Financial Times newspaper in Ghana.
In the past 14 years Ekong, has spearheaded the expansion of Business in Africa Magazine, now headquartered in Johannesburg, into 23 African countries and major international markets.
The magazine and its website www.businessinafrica.net have won several international awards for excellence.
