Salomon Kalou said he checked Chelsea’s results with trepidation while playing for the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
“Every time Chelsea had a game we asked for the score and saw the game when we could,” Kalou said.“I saw a couple while I was there, against Tottenham and Wigan.”
Now returned, he hopes that he will be playing in, rather than watching, Chelsea’s title challenge.
The 22-year-old scored three goals during the Ivory Coast’s run to the semi-finals and wants to continue his good form for his club, as Avram Grant’s side try to catch Manchester United and Arsenal above them.
“The team did well, kept winning games, and now we are back I hope the team is stronger and wins again.”
Chelsea’s next Premier League match is against Tottenham on Sunday 24th. This Saturday they play Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup and then travel to Greece on Tuesday for the first leg of their Last-16 tie with Olympiakos.
