Striker Samuel Eto’o returned to FC Barcelona on Thursday, two days late and carrying an injury sustained at the African Cup of Nations.

Eto’o strained a left thigh muscle while playing for Cameroon in the 1-0 loss to Egypt in last Sunday’s final and has been ruled out of Barcelona’s Spanish league visit to Zaragoza on Saturday.

Barcelona’s medical staff said Eto’o will undergo three days of treatment which should get him fit for his team’s visit to Celtic in the first leg of a Champions League second-round match next Wednesday.

Eto’o underwent initial treatment in Cameroon before travelling to Spain, the club added.

Barcelona has struggled for goals in the striker’s absence, scoring just five times in seven matches.

Eto’o set an African Cup of Nations record on Jan. 30 by scoring his 15th and 16th career goals in Cameroon’s 3-0 victory over Sudan.

Barcelona is second in the league with 48 points from 23 games and trails leader Real Madrid by eight points.
