Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, one of the Vice-Presidential slot hopefuls of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said although he feels disappointed that he was not offered the position, he is not discouraged.
Alhaji Mumuni, who partnered the NDC flag bearer in their unsuccessful bid to wrest power from the ruling government in the 2004 general elections, said, ‘‘I have no bitter or hard feelings that John was chosen above me because I have worked with him both at Cabinet and party levels and I know he is equally capable.’’
In an interview with the Daily Graphic at his residence in Tamale at the weekend, the former Kumbungu MP further said the NDC, as a party, was bigger than any individual or group, and as a loyal member of the party, he was duty-bound to go by the decision of its leadership.
‘‘The constitution of the NDC has made provision for consensus building for which reason we must accept Professor Mills’s choice and rally behind the party to victory in the forthcoming elections,’’ Alhaji Mumuni said.
He, therefore, advised his well wishers not to be down-hearted since it was Allah’s will that he was not chosen but to throw their unflinching support behind the Mills-Mahama ticket and campaign vigorously for the party to win back power to turn the fortunes of the country around.
He described Professor Mills as a man of great honesty and with unblemished character and record.
‘‘He is also sincere, a unifier and a consensus builder, who needs the support of the rank and file to carry out his vision of uniting the country and improving on the quality of life of the people,’’ he added.
Alhaji Mumuni also observed that at the moment, majority of Ghanaians were disappointed in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, following what he described as ‘‘massive corruption, hardship, polarisation and the mismanagement of the economy”.
He said the people were now looking up to the NDC to lead them to salvation for which reason the leadership and supporters of the party needed to unite for victory in December.
