The Convention People’s Party flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom today ignited the dwindling hope, aspiration and the future of Ghana’s industrial sector when he re-affirmed his commitment to work with a sense of urgency as a President to promote the development and growth of the Ghanaian Industries.

“I will provide a consistent and aggressive government policy to support industries owned by Ghanaians throughout the country to provide sustainable jobs and living wages and salaries to our people”, he declared.

According to Dr. Nduom, Ghanaian companies can grow big to compete with foreign imports, when strengthened by the state to compete in international markets.

Delivering his paper on his vision for the private sector as President to the members of the Association of Ghanaian Industries in Accra, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom cited General Park Chung Hee, a former President of Korea in his determination and zeal in 1962. The result of that transformation, Dr. Nduom said is the growth we see in the Korean economy today

“It was General Park who determined that Korea needed big companies if they were to withstand foreign imports, create jobs for Koreans and compete in international markets. He selected companies like Gold star, Daewoo, Samsung and Hyundai, gave them low interest loans, tax incentives, protected domestic markets and provided technical and other assistance to enable them become the big international companies they are today, this is what a CPP government stands to do, and I will do that as President of Ghana, to ensure that Ghanaian industries can compete internationally”

Realising the importance of energy and its immediate effects on the Ghanaian industry, Dr. Nduom said that because energy is fundamental and critical requirement for the growth and development of the any country, his vision will be to provide leadership with a sense of urgency to deliver abundant energy resources to enable the acceleration of industrialization and modernization of communities.
“This can be achieved if we institutionalize the concept of local content to enhance Ghanaian ownership, job creation and capacity building, provide sufficient and cheap power for the rural economy whiles strengthening the regulatory framework for healthy competition and quality assurance”, he noted.
Obviously thrilled by Dr. Nduom’s delivery, the captains of Ghanaian industries were delighted when Dr. Nduom said his aim was to make Ghana an exporter of power and its generation development capabilities, exporter of fuel, exporter of power transmission service capabilities and exporter of management of power systems capabilities.

In the area of oil and gas, Dr. Nduom assured AGI, that as President he will ensure that there is effective participation and sense of ownership of Ghanaians in all areas both upstream and downstream.
According to Dr. Nduom, this will be in conjunction with the Universities and the CSIR and will include tax incentives to be given to the private sector partners who participate in the research and development efforts and the commercialization of the end products.”

Dr. Nduom said the CPP policy on food production will require energetic, sustained and well-organized efforts to produce what we need and eat what we produce. He said the CPP government will actively be involved in all aspects of food production, research, planning, storage, distribution and financing. He said the CPP’s policy direction of food will be to retain the Agricultural Development Bank as a state-owned financial institution, well structured to finance agricultural modernization, production and processing of raw materials, particularly food for domestic consumption.
