Mfantseman Municipal Assembly to gazette bye-laws

The Presiding Member of the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Nana Ataapim Kweeenu VIII has urged the administration to expedite action on getting the Assembly’s by-laws gazzetted.
The Presiding Member noted that it was important that the revised bye-laws of the Assembly were gazetted to give legal backing to their enforcement.
Addressing the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Fourth Assembly at Saltpond, Nana Ataapim Kweenu, who is also the Mankrado of Nkusukum Traditional Area and the Chief Woraba near Cape Coast stated the risks in enforcing laws, which did not have legal backing.
The Presiding Member appealed to the heads of the decentralized departments and agencies of the Assembly to attend meetings of the various sub-committees to offer technical advice.
Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) stated that the Municipal status conferred on the Assembly has enjoined it to increase revenue generation and appealed to the members to support the Assembly in implementing measures outlined to revamp revenue collection.
The MCE announced plans to engage the services of a consultant to develop a prototype salt production facility to be the standard for all salt winners in the Municipality.
He said the Assembly would take advantage of the oil discovery in the Western Region to invest heavily in salt production, which was one of the substances used in the oil industry.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur expressed concern about under utilization of Baifikrom Irrigation Project and appealed to the authorities concerned to put it into maximum use, especially in this era of global food crisis.
He gave the assurance that the Assembly would collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to assist farmers to have access to tractors and ploughs to boost food production.
The MCE commended Zoom Lion Ghana for the good work it was doing to improve sanitation in the Municipality.
Mr Samuel Adabo, Municipal Fire Officer commended the Assembly for deciding to raise funds from the Baifikrom water Expansion Project for construction of fire hydrants at selected points in the Municipality to facilitate fire fighting.
The District Fire Officer noted with concern that, Mankessim, with such a big market had no hydrant and that only two hydrants were functioning in the Municipality, and described the situation “as appalling”.
