Consistent, repetitive libel provokes action

Stung by what he says are unsustainable attacks on his person by the newspapers supporting Professor John Atta Mills, the former editor of The Chronicle, Nana Kofi Coomson, has upped his legal action against The Lens, which he initiated in his bid to bring the papers to heel.
It took a long time for lawyers of the newspaper to turn up, several months after the court action. That was even after the court had given interlocutory judgement in favour of the claimant.

The defendant has now filed an affidavit in opposition to the judgement. The combatants would be in court tomorrow to press home their cases.

Mr. Coomson, who is being represented by lawyer Francis Obiri is claiming damages for a series of articles done from the years 2006 and 2007, including a front page comment titled -Kofi Coomson, a demagogue; another one in November 2006 ‘for the records… Francis Poku and his NPP have apparently picked up Nana Kofi Coomson to be the hunch man…’, and ‘Would Kofi Coomson now be able to sleep? Uncle JB asks. …’

Plaintiff is appalled that Professor Atta Mills, who is a respected lawyer, has turned a blind eye to the writings of his aides, including personal aides.

The only person to come out with an advisory against the NDC press is the Vice Presidential candidate of the NDC, Hon. John Mahama, who is a Communications professional, which has fallen on deaf years.
