Scores of Convention People’s Party (CPP) supporters and sympathizers in Mpohor and it surrounding towns in the Western region last Monday came out in droves to give their flag bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, and the party’s parliamentary candidate for Mpohor Wassa-East constituency, Mrs Mary Ankomah, a rapturous welcome.
This was during the CPP flag bearer’s recent tour of the area to canvass for votes for party and his parliamentary candidate. Since her election, the CPP parliamentary candidate has embarked on vigorous campaigns in the area, which has so far endeared her to many of the constituents, thereby making her the clear favorite to win the seat.
And the massive reception that greeted her as she was raised shoulder high by party members during Dr Nduom’s tour of the constituency was an indication that the CPP has the goodwill of majority of the inhabitants, and is poised to sweep the polls in the area. Among the towns the campaign team visited were Daboase and Mpohor. And in all these places, it was loud and clear that the CPP has become attractive, particularly to the youth.
At Daboase, there was a jubilant atmosphere throughout the town as the enthusiastic crowd sang and danced to various CPP songs, whilst they followed Mrs Ankomah and Dr Nduom, who stood in his open top car, and waved at his admirers and sympathizers. They were later led to the market centre where they greeted and shook hands with the sellers.
When the CPP campaign team arrived at the rally ground, the entire place erupted with thunderous shouts and chants of party slogans, as many of them were visibly heard shouting yeresasamu.
Speaking to the ecstatic crowd, Mrs Ankomah cautioned them against the influence of petty items by other parties in their attempt to buy their votes. She told them that it was important they wake up early on the day of the polls in order to cast their votes, stressing the need for them to be extra-vigilant to avoid any rigging from any quarter.
According to her, the constituency since 1996 has not witnessed any remarkable development which has left many of the towns folk engulfed in abject poverty. She entreated them to vote for her and the CPP for development to come to the constituency.
On his part, the presidential candidate of the CPP reiterated his call on clean campaign, devoid of insults and personality attacks, and would always strive to ensure that there is peace in the country. He asserted that, the CPP would not tolerate its members who engage in personality attacks and insults nor meddle in activities that will set the country’s clock of development backwards. He said the party will continue to demonstrate to Ghanaians it is a peaceful party, and that by voting for the CPP on December 7, the country will be voting for peace.
Dr Nduom, however, expressed regret over the state of the market centre which was close to the rally ground, and urged them to vote for his party to salvage the ailing Ghanaian economy by creating jobs for the growing youth many of who he said are unemployed.
From Daboase, the campaign team made a whistle stop at Adum Banso where the CPP flag bearer and the parliamentary candidate were accorded enthusiastic welcome by CPP faithful most of who were dressed in the party’s T-shirt. The presence of Dr Nduom charged the supporters to celebrate and chant slogans of the party.
The tour finally ended with a mini rally at Mpohor township where the presidential hopeful of the CPP told the ecstatic crowd – especially the youth to show keen interest in the upcoming elections. He told them to examine all the presidential candidates and vote for the person who when elected will work with a sense of urgency to improve the lives of the masses in this country.
According to Dr Nduom it behooves them to vote for the CPP since it was the only party that will bring about the real change that the masses of are yearning for. He said that it was sad that the town was saddled with a lot of social amenities, which included the lack of potable water, bad roads and the non-existence of jobs. He sounded upbeat about the chances of his party in the Western region, adding that the region will vote massively for the CPP.

I hope and pray that she wins the seat for cpp.
