A 13-member reconstituted Board of Governors for Dwamena Akenten Senior High School at Offinso, was on Friday inaugurated with a call on members to uphold the interest of the school.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, who gave the advice, urged members of the Board to advise management of the school constantly on the overall school policy.
He, however, cautioned them to always ensure that they did not overstep their boundary by interfering in the work of the school management.
Mr Onyinah said it was the responsibility of board members to control the general policy of the school and also helped to solve conflicts and acts that tend to undermine effective teaching and learning.
He said, even though the ultimate responsibility to ensure quality education delivery rested with the government, he noted that the challenge of transforming education could not be met solely by the state.
“Quality education for our students is interwoven with our commitment in ensuring their survival and development and must be view as the single most critical factor in a student’s overall well-being and the country’s social and economic development”, he said.
Mr Onyinah observed that a strong education system was a significant counterforce to obdurate inter-generation patterns of poverty, violence, conflicts, indiscipline, defiance to authority, immorality and gender discrimination.
The Regional Director of Education therefore urged the board to commit itself to the realisation of quality education.
Mr K.O. Frimpong Dwamena, Headmaster of the school, announced that a 12-unit two-storey classroom block was being put up with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
He added that the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), had also accepted to renovate and expand the girls’ dormitory to accommodate more intakes.
Dr E.C. Nyarko, lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Chairman of the board assured that the Board would ensure academic and moral discipline among staffs and students.
