We are ready for Run-off-DSP Kwesi Ofori

The Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Kwesi Ofori has warned electorates especially the so called ‘macho’ men who try who to invade police stations by using undue force and invite pain on decent people will be dealt with should they try to that during voting on December 28.

“For those people who have been disturbing the peace of decent Ghanaians, we have decided to marshal up our resources and equipments in and around all police stations come December 28 and that any one who dares to come in there and repeat the incidence like what happened at Akwatia will not be spared at all.

“We will make sure that we use reasonable force, which proportional, legitimate and in line with our rules of engagement to deal with you”.

He said it the duty of the police to protect the interest of the general public, thus should any try to disfranchise anybody, the police will act actively and for that matter fast to stop such crime.

According to him, there is a Ballot Security Sub-committee under the National Election Security Task Force who is currently mapping up strategies as to how best to protect the ballot boxes and the voting pattern.

DSP Ofori said it the as well the duty of the security officer who will be at post to inform the electoral officer who is in charge of any wrong doing of a voter and if possible arrest the person. He added that that after negotiations with the Electoral Commission (EC) it is now settled that at any polling station; there would be at least four police officers at post during the run-off.

He said though they have received rumors that some people are planning to cause problems come 28, the security agencies of the country are more prepared than ever to protect the voter and the whole nation.

“We will be there, we will be observing everything very closely to make sure that some these activities that are been rumored around never occurs come 28. We will be out there and our main aim is to protect the voter and make sure that the voter goes through the proper procedure, make sure that the ballot box is safe, make sure also that the electoral officer enjoys good security to enable him or her work efficiently”.

DSP Kwesi Ofori appealed to the electorates not to wait after elections, but rather immediately report to any officer should there be any mishaps for that matter to be taken up. He reiterated that it is not the duty of the security officer to either check identity card or intimidate any one but rather to protect the interest of the people.
