The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet has stated that the move by the Northern regional branch of the party to throw their weight behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) shows that the party took the right decision to be neutral.

He said in the past the party had bonded with both the NDC and NPP and that has always divided the party. He said even when Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom was campaigning people saw him as a person from the NPP and this time the party has won one Parliamentary seat without the assistance of NPP or NDC and therefore the party have to try and build credibility and trust in the eyes of the Ghanaian.

According to him, the party will not be taken seriously by Ghanaians if once again they decide to attach themselves to either NDC or NPP, and that people have their own mind on the ground in terms of who to vote for.

“We all know that in the northern region there are unusual circumstances that has occurred, and even many of these who had come to Accra from that region have told me about their fear of been beaten or their lose of life or property if they don’t conduct themselves to a particular direction. So I think this also vindicate the decision taken by them”.

Mr. Greenstreet said Ghanaians know that it was the CPP who first came out with the slogan ‘yeresesamu’ (change) while the NDC’s was ‘Sankofo’ so for NDC to adopt change now is contradictory thus before the party supports any NDC it would be better for the party to meet and give out reasons why they have decided to support that change.

To him this will help both the party and the individual so that if the party should be asked by Ghanaians they would be able show that they are discerning human beings with a sound political party.

When asked whether Dr. Nduom’s inability to perform better in the elections was as a result of his inability to articulate the policies of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, He explained that there are many issues with regards to the elections in terms of why the party did not do well and the party will internally sit and go on a fact finding mission to ascertain why the party performed poorly.
