GUN SHOT AT BAWKU!

Hours after President John Evans Atta Mills, met with leaders of the Mamprusi and Kousasi traditional groups at Boligatanga on a peace plan amongst the two feuding factions, gun shots were heard.
Alhaji Guma, spokesperson for the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka confirming the shooting incidence on Asempa Fm, an Accra based radio station this morning, contended that, the delegation that went to meet the President arrived from Bolgatanga last night at 8:00pm hours after that gunshots were heard around 11pm, deeping tension in the area.
He added that “After meeting with the presidet we thought that for once there has been some agreement between the two parties, not knowing some people came there to make a fool out of us”, warning that situations could escalate if necessary steps are not taken to revers the trend.
According to him, the Police upon hearing the shooting incidence quickly moved in to ensure that some level of sanity prevailed but added the Police were unable to effect any arrest.
Alhaji Guma described the development as unfortunate, unhealthy and a stab in the back, alleging that certain individuals were working hard to destort the effort the President.
” I think that someone is not comfortable that for once we are making some progress as far as peace is concerned, so there are people who are deliberately destorting the process, But i can assure any body that we are commited in resolving the matter amicabily”, he retorted.
However, Koku Anhidowo, Communication Director at the office of the President who was present at the meeting also confirmed the incident.
“We also waked up this morning to here what happened. It is very, very sad. But well, you can force a horse to the river side but you can force it to drink”, assuring government’s committment in resolving the matter.
However, when Present Mills met with Alhaji Akalifah Bugri, an elder of the Mamprusi group and Asigri Abugrago, Bawku Naba and head of the Kousasi yesterday, he made both men hug each other in public for the first time since 2007 .
It was also reported that the elders displayed mutual affection towards enhancing peace to the area.
President Mills who is on a four day visit to the northern part of Ghana rounds up his visit tomorrow, 31st May, 2009, after paying courtesy call on the Wa Naba.
