Fred Oware Fired

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power project, Mr. Fred Oware has been asked to proceed on leave effective June, 1, 2009.

Fred Oware was appointed by former President John Agyekum Kufuor on May 21, 2008 to serve as the Chief Executive officer of the project.

The Bui Dam, was inaugurated in 2007 by the erstwhile, NPP government in 2007 to add 400 megawatts of power to the country’s generation mix.

Meanwhile, a former employee of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Jabesh Amissah-Arthur has been asked to take over from him.

Jabesh Amissah-Arthur is an energy expert with twenty-five years of long and varied experience in utility operations, utility management, policy analysis, project management, power contracts & related negotiations for PPAs, GSAs, PSAs and JVs.

Jabesh has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, Cambridge, USA.

Jabesh has been closely involved in regional energy projects, such as the West African Gas Pipeline Project (WAGP) as a Sponsor Representative and also the West African Power Pool (WAPP) as a Steering Committee member and as a Utility Representative.

He has served as a director on the boards of several energy companies.

Mr Amissah-Arthur has been a consultant for various clients including the World Bank, Utility Companies and Regulatory Agencies. He has also researched energy issues as a Fellow of the Institute of Economic Affairs in Ghana and is the Managing Partner of AEA.
