Guinness Breweries Launches New Soft Drink

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) has launched a new non-alcoholic natural malt-based soft drink known as Alvaro.
Ghana is the first country to launch the drink, which comes in two different flavours; pear and pineapple.

Alvaro is produced from barley, lactose, coloured malt extract, sugar and other ingredients and comes in a 330ml stylish green bottle, embossed with an emotive and contemporary metallic labelling, and sells at 70Gp.

The drink was introduced onto the Ghanaian market at a media and customer launch last Friday, where customers were treated to some music by hiplife artist Batman Samini, while they sipped Alvaro and danced.

Most of the customers who attended the launch were in their late teens and thirties.

Launching the drink, the Managing Director of GGBL, Mr Seni Adetu, said Alvaro set a unique standard within the soft drinks category in the country because it is produced from non-roasted barley which gives it a clearer colour, compared to Malta Guinness which is made from roasted barley.

He stated that the product was developed after careful research, to satisfy the growing needs of consumers who yearned for a drink that was unique and natural.

Mr Adetu, however, noted that the drink was not replacing the old Malta Guinness, which would still be on the Ghanaian market.

The Marketing Director of GGBL, Ms Ama Okyere, said innovation continued to be one of the key pillars of growth of GGBL and met the young adults’ drive to make choices that reflected their modern views and attitudes.

She said the drink was targeted at young adults who were fun-loving, sophisticated, adventurous and yet individualistic.
‘‘This soft drink makes a statement about who they are,’’ she added.

The Innovations Manager of GGBL, Ms Judith Osei, commended the exceptional team spirit and drive that characterised the process from the conception and production of the drink until it reached the consumer.

She also expressed the joy of GGBL in meeting consumer needs and expectations.
