GOC marks Olympic Day

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) on Tuesday marked Olympic Day with a flag raising ceremony at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.
The Day, which is celebrated worldwide, was to mark the formation of the Olympic movement and also forms part of activities by the GOC towards the “Olympic Day.â€
Mr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, acting Minister of Youth and Sports who graced the ceremony described the day as historic since it is geared towards championing the Olympic cause.
He said the Day presents an opportunity to remember Olympians, who did the nation proud at previous Olympic Games.
Dr Deborah Cubage, Second Vice President of the GOC said her outfit was emphasizing on exercises as well as promoting the Olympic ideals.
She said the GOC has enlarged this year’s Olympic Day celebrations with programmes including Talk Shows, Fun Games, Tree Planting and Clean-up exercises.
The climax of the day, she said will be a Health Walk and Fun Games at the Atomic Sport Center at Kwabenya on Saturday, June 27 which is expected to be attended by 1,000 Keep Fit Clubs.
The event is being sponsored Coca Cola Ghana Limited.
The Olympic movement was born on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France.
