The Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe-North Constituency Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor, has reminded Ghanaians that President John Evans Atta Mills and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) needs a little more time to clear the mess created by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

According to the lawmaker, President Mills is aware of the promises he made during the 2008 elections and is working hard to fulfill those promises.

“Many are saying that the President is too slow; but you see, if you come to meet a mess and you are trying to clear it, it would definitely take time, so the president needs more time,” Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor maintained

He underscored that, barely six months down the line, President Mills and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is performing beyond all doubt.

Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor indicated that things are somehow slow but believed that as time goes on things would gather momentum and pick up.

“Well I can say that after six months, so far the journey appears to be so good and we will definitely get there,” he said.

Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor was speaking to Ghanaian Journal in an exclusive interview in Accra .

He noted that the President and the NDC know Ghanaians are expecting a lot from them, so they will not relent in the performance of their task to fulfill the campaign promises.

Touching on the recent US $50,000 car loans for Members of Parliament, Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor decried the initiative and had this to tell Ghanaian Journal:

“When we came to Parliament in the year 2005, we suggested that Honourable Members of Parliament be given duty vehicles just like the Ministers, so that there would not be the need to give loans to MPs. This is because, once you give loans to MPs, some people think that it is a gift from the government,” he noted, adding, “we are saying that as we want to work for the people then the state should be able to give us vehicles to work for the people-so, there is no sense in MPs going for loans to buy cars.”

Hon. Prince Jacob Hayibor maintained that MPs always insisted that they are given state duty vehicles but the government was not in the position to provide that.

He continued that, the then NPP government under Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, in response to the suggestion made by the Honourable Members of the House said the government could not give out vehicles to MPs, but could act as a guarantor on behalf of all the 230 MPs for car loans.

This, he identified, compelled government to give car loans to Honourable Members for them to pay back.

On the recent flood disasters in Ghana, the lawmaker urged all well meaning Ghanaians to rally behind the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to demolish structures at water-logged areas since it would help save lives and properties.

He advised Ghanaians to take building permits and do the right thing to help prevent future disasters.
