Ex-Minister’s Wife for Court on Thursday

On 17th June, 2009, Mrs. Asamoah Boateng was alleged to have thrown in range and engaged operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), in a scaffold over her husband’s passport.
Mrs. Asamoah Boateng in the process managed to snatch her husband’s passport from the BNI officials and reportedly kept it in her dress.
Consequently, the Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the time publicly came out to condemn the behaviour of the former minister’s wife and hinted of prosecuting her in due course.
Speaking on Joy Fm, an Accra based radio station; Mr Asamoah Boateng said his wife received a writ last week that summoned her appear before an Accra Fast track High Court and indicated that his wife has no option than to appear before the Court and argue her case out.
“At this juncture there is nothing we can do except to go to court and make our case. We received the sermon last week so we are preparing towards that. I am very sure that things would be all right after the court proceedings.†the ex-Information Minister contended.
It would be recalled that Mr. Asamoah Boateng and his wife together with two children were on June, 17, stopped by BNI operatives at the Kotoka International Airport from travelling to the United Kingdom (UK), following allegations of abuse of power and conflict of interest when he was the Information Minister in the former Kufuor administration.
It is alleged that Mr. Asamoah Boateng awarded a contract of Eighty Six Thousand Nine Hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis to his sister in-law.
Mr. Asamoah Boateng’s Deputy at the time Frank Agyekum was consequently invited by the BNI to answer queries in respect of issuing requisition to the Finance and Economic Planning Ministry for the payment of the said amount.
