The Chiefs and people of Ga South Municipal Assembly have been urged to foster peace and unity in the development of the assembly.

Honourable Sherrif Nii Otto Dodoo made the call during a visit to the Zonal Councils of the Assembly.

According to him, the Assembly wastes much of its resources in addressing preventable chieftaincy disputes which undermine the purpose of its establishment.

He indicated that the Assembly is faced with a lot of challenges in its quest to enhance the living conditions of the people residing within the assembly.

Some of the challenges, Hon. Nii Otto Dodoo identified, include land disputes, sand winning, environmental and sanitation issues, child labour, bush fires, fire out breaks, girl child education as well as the lack proper revenue mobilization and collection. He said some of these challenges are preventable.

He, however, attributed these problems to the high unemployment level in the district, adding that "the Assembly would do its best to address the challenges bedevilling the area."

He therefore called for all hands to be on deck and work assiduously to help address some of the problems confronting the district.

Hon. Sherrif Nii Otto Dodoo further promised to work hard to ensure an effective and efficient Assembly.

In a remark, the Municipal Chief Engineer, Joseph Adotei indicated that the Assembly was aware of these problems and has factored them into its schemes of action and budget.

He revealed that the Assembly is putting a comprehensive action plan to enhance rapid development and growth of the district to make it one of the most effective Municipal Assemblies in the country.

He made a passionate appeal to the Zonal Councils to intensify their revenue collections to enable the assembly to fulfil its promises to enhance the living conditions of the less endowed in the society.
