Former WBA Welterweight champion, Joshua Clottey, has made a humble appeal to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Abdul Rashid Pelpuo, for the construction of a boxing gymnasium in the country.

During his courtesy call on the Minister, at his office yesterday, Clottey noted that the sport is doing well, and has earned Ghana the needed recognition, hence the need for a boxing gym.

"It is high time we build a gymnasium for the nation. Bouts end abruptly anytime there is rainfall because we fight under unroofed platforms.

"If I have to offer a helping hand, I can bring Interplast on board to help in the construction of the gymnasium," added Clottey. His request went down well with Hon Pelpuo, who consequently gave the assurance that his outfit will work around the clock to provide the infrastructure to boxers in the country.

Coincidentally, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC), Mr. Worlanyo Agra, had come to the Minister to brief him on plans regarding the construction of a boxing gymnasium.

"In fact this is why I’m here, plans are far advanced for the construction of a modern gymnasium soonest," he told this reporter.
