Nduom’s “house gift” to Satellites

Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP), has lauded the sterling performance that saw the Black Satellites emerge as world champions in the just ended FIFA under-20 tournament in Egypt.

In a press release, Dr. Nduom admitted that although he agrees with many Ghanaians that the team and its technical officials must be handsomely rewarded, the package of such a reward should be something Ghanaian. This, he explained would help promote the growth of local Ghanaian businesses.

“I agree with many Ghanaians and President Mills that government should give the Satellite team players and officials a bonus that is fitting and commensurate with their achievement. But the bonus should be something Ghanaian, must promote Ghanaian enterprise and must be visible to all”, said the 2008 CPP presidential candidate.

Against this background, Dr Nduom recommended to the government the following: a three bedroom house each for the team’s members and officials; the Ghana Institute of Architects should be commissioned to design a durable house using Ghanaian clay burnt bricks, CSIR cement, local hard wood floors, etc.

He went on to disclose that members of GREDA be given contracts to build the houses to the specifications determined by the architects.

“The houses should be built in the home towns of the players and officials to ensure the possibility that at least one will be built in most if not all regions. “This way, local labour, artisans and suppliers will see some benefit,” he submitted.

According to Dr Nduom, the feat achieved by the Black Satellites puts Ghana high on the world stage.

“My suggestion if well taken will reinforce the need to create employment opportunities at home and will support Ghanaian enterprise while supporting a worthwhile cause,” he advised.
