FROM MAGDALENE SEY, CAPE COAST
The Central Regional Director of the Center for National Culture (CNC), Mr Emmanuel Quao, has emphasized the need for students in the country to pursue theatre arts to the highest level.
He said the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has introduced Theatre studies and that it would be easy for them to pursue the course to the highest level.
This, he said, this would help them to assist the country in promoting cultural and good traditional values which will promote discipline in the country.
He indicated that the fading of these traditional values have contributed immensely to the negative tendencies such as armed robbery, prostitution, “sakawa” and occultism among the youth.
Mr Quao gave the advice at this year’s Students Drama Festival for Western and Central Regional Senior High Schools at Cape Coast over the weekend.
The programme was initiated by CNC to appreciate the good works of Mr Joe De-Graft, a poet and a former tutor at Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.
Mr Quao indicated that the programme would encourage creativity and acting among students who are interested in theatre arts.
He expressed the hope that students who have talents in acting would develop their talents through the programme.
Students were ordered to write their own plays and perform it within 25 minutes.
Some of the participating schools were Mfantsiman Girls’, Ghana National College, Fiaseman and Ghana Secondary Technical School in the Western Region, Agona Nsaba SHS, Edinaman, Methodist High SHS, Adisadel College, St. Augustine’s College, Mfantsipim, Holy Child and University Practice SHS.
