Mr Canada pledges support to bodybuilders
Posted by on November 5, 2009 at 10:33 am in Other Sports, SportsInternational Federation of Body Builders Professional (IFBBF) and the Canadian Bodybuilding Legend, Freddy Antwi, has stated that for a person to become a good professional body builder, he or she needs a lot of determination to develop the love for body building sport.
According to him, anyone who veered into the body building sport for the simple reason of making fortunes out of the sport has totally failed.
He therefore cautioned potential body builders, upcoming body builders and the youth against the tendency of putting money first whenever they aspire to become legends in body building.
Freddy Antwi was speaking exclusively to TODAY in an interview in Accra.
“Body building is a form of self expression, it does not only develop the body, it also develops your character and makes you a more disciplined person,” he told TODAY.
He continued that with the experience that a person gathers from body building you can apply those experiences in life.
“Body building requires a lot of determination and patience; these are what I call the main ingredients that one needs to become successful in body building,” said Mr Antwi.
Touching on the development of body building in Ghana, Mr Canada revealed that he was in the country to contribute his quota to lifting up the game.
It is in this vein that he disclosed that he was embarking on a vigorous campaign to raise more awareness to whip up the enthusiasm for the sport.
He said he is currently in the country to support the current winner of the Mr Ghana contest, Kofi Asaase, and push him into the pro- international level if possible.
He pledged that he would use his experience to push Mr Ghana because he had all that it takes to be an international star.
He charged the youth who love body building sport to attach great seriousness to it.
As a legend in his own right, he is revered for not only his physique but his big heart. Freddy has long had the desire to make a contribution in his homeland Ghana and to inspire other athletes.
At the just ended Man Ghana Competition which was held on October 24, 2009, at the National Theatre, which saw Kofi Asaase emerging as the winner, Freddy assisted in the judging of the show and was also a formidable sponsor who offered a cash prize of $1,000 Canadian dollars to the overall winner.
Furthermore, he also awarded gifts to the winner of each weight class and a special trophy to honour the best poser; something close to his heart having won the best poser award himself in each and every competition that he entered.
Mr Antwi understands the Fitness Industry from many perspectives. His grass roots experience started in the sport of bodybuilding in 1989 and took him on a journey to becoming a phenomenal athlete of such magnitude that his name, Freaky Freddy, is legendary. Freddy began his athletic career as a high school football player.
He took to weight training in 1987 to help regain strength and endurance after sustaining a knee injury. In addition to the great results he was getting, he stumbled upon a passion for weight training.

His unwavering tenacity, creativity and desire for perfection coupled with his unbelievable symmetry and genetics made him the only amateur body builder sought after to perform on stage and make guest appearances.
As an amateur athlete, his charisma and creativity won over crowds worldwide as he was commissioned to perform his show-stopping performances while his legend grew. Freddy competed as an amateur in body building from 1989-1999.
He was the only competitor known to not only have won first placing in each and every competition but also swept the overall titles and the best poser award in each and every contest.
Known throughout the industry to be a humble and modest man, his early found fame did not interfere with his quest to attain professional status.
After capturing the title of MR.CANADA, Freddy retired from professional body building and began using his vast experiences and determination to focus on his other passion, business. Today, Fred is a professional trainer of elite athletes and continues to train and educates individuals across North America, inspiring others to attain their own personal fitness goals.
