The Fulani community at Prang, in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo Region has enstooled a new chief.
Amidst chanting and dancing to brass band music, Alhaji Buba was last Wednesday enstooled as the Fulani chief of Prang.
According to the people, the main priority of the chief is to check the activities of Fulani headsmen who have carved a bad name for themselves for some time now.
“Our main aim (the Fulani people) of installing a chief is to control our brothers and sisters who ply their trade in the farming business. For some time now, we have realized that gradually our name is being dragged into the mad for offences we know nothing of. And we belief that installing a chief will help us address some of these problems,” stated one of Fulani people who wants to remain anonymous.
Alhaji Buba in his acceptance speech as the new chief, promised to educate his people on how to live in harmony with other people, irrespective of the person’s ethnic background or political persuasion.
“As chief and from henceforth, I will make sure that none of our people flout the laws of this country (Ghana), and I also promise to promote unity with our Ghanaian friends,’ Alhaji Buba submitted.
He continued: “Some of our people (Fulani herdsmen) in some parts of the country are fond of brutalizing and raping innocent people. But as the new chief, I will try as much as possible to reverse that trend and carve a new name for my people,” Alhaji Buba assured.
The enstoolment was scheduled to have taken place at Jeji but was later done at Prang due to the disapproval of the of the Jeji chief
The colourful ceremony was witnessed by people from all walks of life and graced by ASP Anane Amoah, from the Jeji Police Command and Alhaji Karim Grunzah Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi based King Faisal football club.
