Newmont Ghana Gold Company Limited yesterday visited Ghana Media Group, the parent company of TODAY newspaper, The Ghanaian Journal.com (Online Newspaper) and Akomka Fm with the aim of strengthening relationship between the two companies.

Led by the External Affairs Manager, Mr. Yaw Dadzie and Mrs. Rita Kissi, a member of Newmont’s public affairs section, the visit formed part of a familiarization tour of media houses by the mining company.

In a brief remark, Mr Dadzie disclosed that his outfit was embarking upon what he described as “familiarization visit to some media houses for fraternal discussions.”

According to him, Newmont’s decision to include Ghana Media Group to its list of media houses was as a result of the media group incursions into the media landscape.

On her part, Mrs Rita Kissi, Communications Executive of Newmont, thanked management for its warm reception and expressed the hope that relationship between the two parties will continue to grow and improve.

Mr Richmond Keelson, the Editor-in-Chief of TODAY, also seized the opportunity to thank the staff from Newmont for recognizing the efforts of the paper and realizing its contributions on the media front.

He indicated that the various news stories carried by the paper about Newmont were without any malice or any deliberate attempt to ruin Newmont’s reputation stressing that “the paper was just exercising its responsibilities by informing the public.”

It was in this direction that he added that his outfit would not hesitate to call upon Newmont for clarifications on issues before the paper goes to press with any story on the company.

“I will once again thank you for recognizing the work we are doing here, and I can also promise you that today marks a new beginning of our long standing relationship. We will as well also ask your public relations section to be open to my reporters when they call on you for clarifications on stories.”

Mr Richmond Lankwei Lamptey, the Editor of TODAY, also reiterated the paper’s commitment to ensuring that mining companies in the country exhibit responsibility and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
