Mr Kofi Asante (aka Champion Chairman), NPP Chair for Madina Abokobi Constituency

Mr Kofi Asante (aka Champion Chairman), NPP Chair for Madina Abokobi Constituency
The problem is that some youth in the constituency are calling for the dismissal of the constituency chairman, Mr Kofi Asante, popularly known as ‘Champion Chairman’ for the misuse of Microfinance and Small Loan Scheme (MASLOC) funds when the NPP was in power.
According to the enraged youth, Mr Asante put his daughter, Akosua Darkoa, in charge of the MASLOC programme and that offered him easy access to manipulate loans under the scheme where he cheekily and strictly offered the loans to only NPP activists and supporters close to him.
That arrangement, the youth believe, enabled the chairman and his close associates to earn Millions of Ghana Cedis that instantly changed his social status within the first year of assumption as chairman of the Madina Abokobi constituency of NPP.
In a brief reaction to the allegations leveled against him, the constituency chairman had this to tell TODAY: “my daughter works at MASLOC but I have no idea about these MASLOC loans.”
He continued…“my brother I have never been involved in any deal anywhere. Some elements in the constituency are against my continuous stay in office as the NPP chairman for the Madina Abokobi Constituency and they just want to frame me up to spoil my political ambitions.”
“These allegations are all fabricated lies in an attempt to unseat me as the chairman since they know I am seeking for re-election,” he pointed out.
The youth believe the partisan disbursement of the MASLOC funds by their chairman led to the abysmal performance of the NPP in the constituency.
They could not fathom how and why their chairman could be so selective in giving out the loans and not attending to them in the face of their sweats and toil that ensured that the NPP won the 2000 and 2004 elections and contended that it was even politically incorrect for the chairman to have ignored other non-NPP supporters who applied for the loan.
They accused the Champion Chairman of forming groups and associations with his favourites where the loans came directly to them
This situation, TODAY can report, has the potential of marring the impending Madina-Abokobi Constituency elections of the NPP, particularly where many of the youth activists of the NPP have sworn not to have anything to do with their chairman.
As a result of this, the NPP youth are calling on the national executives to address the problem before matters get out of hand.
