Ghana’s football authorities are investigating three key players – Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan – for excusing themselves without permission for tonight’s friendly against Angola.

“The players stayed out without the permission of the head coach, Mr. Milovan Rajevac. The FA views this act with great concern and will investigate the matter further to inform its next course of action,” a press statement from Kofi Nsiah, the general secretary of the Ghana FA noted.

The statement said the Ghana FA complied with FIFA regulations to secure 20 players, including the three absentee regulars, for the World Cup qualifying match against Mali on Sunday and tonight’s international friendly.

Only captain Stephen Appiah and youngster Samuel Inkoom have obtained express permission from the coach to attend to club commitments.

Essien, Muntari and Gyan were not part of the team that left Accra on Monday for Luanda for the game against the Palancas Negras on Wednesday.
