The development of nations around us is built from and sustained by long hours spent in laboratories and libraries by students who are propelled by the burning desire for problem solving; this statement was made by Professor Rose Joshua during the 3rd inauguration ceremony of the Data Link University SRC executives.

She stated that, student union leadership has made transition as we see progress of our nation from independence till date as a result; the challenge for today’s students’ union leaders is to ensure proper prioritization of student activities.

Professor Rose Joshua further stated that, gone are the days when student unionism was one of the active warfare on a constant battle ground against University authorities and administration. “Today we usher in a new crop of students leaders who will focus on nation building rather than aggression “she expressed.
She urged students to be active and innovatively seek avenues to apply to their education to the need of our people and the nation as a whole.

“In this spirit our Engineering students must focus on rebuilding the confidence of our government so we stop outsourcing our road and bride construction project to overseas engineers, pharmacy student must focus on finding a lasting cure and immunization for malaria, environmental students must collaborate with engineers to find ways of preventing malaria in the first place, by looking for avenue to banish anopheles mosquitoes from our forests, by means of plant genetic and drainage management, and other innovative ideas.

She said if students concentrate their minds on solving national problems and other creative activities, there would be no time for unnecessary aggression, negative activities or excessive entertainment.

She advised the new executives to work hand in hand with the administration and learn leadership rather than fight it and that every conflict can be resolved amicably,” and we encourage you to seek mature resolution of student matters without resorting to any manner of incitement”.

Mr. Samuel Kofi Ampah the SRC president elect for Data Link University stated that, the University which is supposed to be a place for grooming young talents for the job market and nation building to some extent, this is because the drive behind tertiary education in Ghana is not about innovation, creativity and critical thinking by beneficiaries.

He stated that, tertiary education according to the Association of Commonwealth University, (2006) enhances sustainable development, economic competiveness and good governance in the nation and also bring global peace.

He disclosed that, Data Link University would be an iconic private university in Ghana and his administration would be a facilitator to that achievement.

“My team wants to ensure students that we represent the future of the Data Link and thus we shall not joke with the future, we will build a brand and that brand will be Data Link University College “.
