Nigeria may fire security officials for failing to stop the man suspected of allegedly trying to blow up a U.S. plane over Detroit on Dec. 25 from traveling out of the country, the Daily Trust reported.
The government is concerned that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was able to enter Nigeria from nearby Ghana and was able to board a plane to Amsterdam after his father had earlier warned agencies that his son may be a security threat, the Abuja-based newspaper said, citing an unidentified government official.
It’s likely there was no proper exchange of information between the Nigeria Intelligence Agency and the State Security Service, the newspaper cited the official as saying, without giving further details.
Abdulmutallab flew to Amsterdam from the Nigerian commercial capital, Lagos, on Dec. 24 and allegedly tried to set off a bomb on Northwest Flight 253 from Amsterdam the next day.
