Twenty-nine year-old woman fined GH¢480 for assault
Posted by on February 2, 2010 at 9:59 am in Court News, Local NewsA 29-year-old woman was on Monday fined GH¢480, by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ for assaulting a 33-year-old woman.
Amanda Akins, the presiding judge, ordered that in default, Esenam Ampah, the accused, should serve 18 months imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Evelyn Susuawa told the court that the accused person and the victim, Believe Semaka, both reside at Ashaiman.
She said the accused and the complainant are rivals over a man, who allegedly has ceased going out with the accused for the past six months.
Chief Inspector Susuawa said, on January 21, 2008 at about 0800 hours, the accused with a bowl containing powdered pepper diluted with water went to her ex-boy friend’s house.
She said, knowing that the victim was in the room with the man in question; the accused called the victim out and immediately poured the diluted powered pepper on her body and face.
She also subjected Semaka the victim to severe beating in the presence of the landlord and his wife.
The prosecution said later both of them rushed to the Ashaiman Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and lodged their complaints.
Chief Inspector Susuawa said medical forms were issued to them to go to hospital but the accused person refused to go.
She said after the medical report had indicated that the victim had been assaulted, she made a report to the Police and Esenam was arrested and charged with the offence.
