The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga West District, Ebenezer Nii Armah Tackie, has entreated the chief and people of Pokuase to put aside chieftaincy matters and co-operate with the district in order to develop the area.
According to him, a community without peace among its members will not progress stressing that all parties involved in chieftaincy disputes in the area should let sleeping dogs lie.
Nii Armah Tackie made the call when he officially commissioned the newly constructed Pokuase lorry station at Pokuase in Accra.
He indicated that the deplorable state of the Pokuase lorry station became a big worry for drivers in the community.
“It is in this regard that the district assembly saw it prudent to rehabilitate the station for convenient use by commercial drivers,” noted the Ga West MCE.
He said the station will serve as a convenient place to pick and offload passengers and commuters.
The MCE acknowledged the fact that the land belonged to the Badu family at Pokuase.
Mr Nii Armah Tackie also appealed to the women who will be selling in the station to make peace among themselves and invest their monies wisely.
He cautioned the women in the community to give premium to their children’s education instead of investing their monies in funerals, naming ceremonies and other activities which would not benefit them.
“The reason why I am stressing on the women is that I was educated by a woman and for that matter you women should educate your children,” the MCE underscored.
Touching on sanitation in the area, he charged members of the community to keep the place tidy in an effort to prevent the spread of environmental diseases.
The presiding officer in the area, Daniel Darko Dodoo, recalled that the land which was given to the assembly formally served as a comfortable haven for criminals in and around the municipality. These criminals, he said engaged in all kinds of criminal activities.
He emphasized that the construction of the station will help weed out the criminals from their hide outs.
“The station is not constructed for one union but for all, thus the GPRTU, Taxi drivers union and the tro-tro drivers union,” the presiding officer pointed out.
On the need for decent dressing for drivers, the presiding officer called on the drivers to be mindful of their appearances and dress well.
Osofo Gyimah, a member of the drivers union and the head of the market women in the community, expressed his profound gratitude to the assembly man of the area and the MCE for providing them with the station.
