Minister’s ‘son’ busted
Posted by on February 5, 2010 at 11:26 am in Top StorySTORY: FROM JAMES APPIAKORANG JNR., EFFIDUASE
A young man who has been parading himself as the son of the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, was arrested by the Effiduase District Police last Saturday, after attempting to defraud the Effiduase District Chief Executive (DCE) Kwadwo Adae at his residence.
The young man in his late 20s introduced himself to the son of the DCE as Isaac Chireh saying he had something very important to discuss with the DCE, Mr Addae, who was then in Kumasi. Mr Addae was therefore asked to return immediately to meet the son of his boss who had important information for him.
However, after carefully listening to the young Chireh, he was found to be an impostor and detained at the Effiduase police station for about an hour-and-half after which he was released on the orders of the DCE.
Though Mr Yieleh Chireh in a reaction admitted Isaac was a distant relative, he stressed that he is not his son, adding that he had caused several of such embarrassment to him and hence must be dealt with accordingly.
In an interview with TODAY, Mr Adae confirmed the story and said Isaac, when speaking with him on phone, introduced himself as the son of Mr Yieleh Chireh, and a staff at the minister’s office.
He said he had important information which the DCE should hear for his own good.
Mr Addae said he suddenly had a feeling that the young man was not telling the truth and therefore called the district police commander who detailed an investigator to go to the house with him.
Isaac told Mr Addae that while working in the minister’s office one day, he overheard a conversation between the minister and somebody that his (Mr Addae) name was on a list to be removed by the president soon due to his stale relationship with members and executives of the Effiduase Zongo Constituency of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He, therefore, advised Mr Adae to go to Accra and meet the chief of staff and the chairman of the Council of State or losses his job.
“But having worked with the minister for some time, I know the caliber of person he is and he would invite me if there was anything wrong before requesting the termination of my appointment by the president, but since he had not said anything about it to me, I knew the young man was not telling the truth.”
Mr Adae said after series of interrogation by the police CID they realized the young man who was so inconsistent in his information was peddling untruth and hence took him to the police station where he was detained.
After about an hour, Mr Adae recalled, his sector minister called on his mobile phone and told him Isaac had called him that he (Mr Addae) had caused his arrest without doing any wrong.
He said after explaining everything to the minister, he got so angered and asked him to met any punishment he wanted to him since he was an imposter and not his son.
However, the DCE who said he had showed the young man that he was smarter has ordered his release adding that having been detained for an hour-and-half was enough punishment for him.
