Cape Coast has new TV station

A 64-square-meter studio for a Cape Coast television station, Coastal Television, has been formally unveiled in Cape Coast to enable the station lift up its standard of broadcast in the metropolis and the region as a whole.
The TV station, which has been operating for two years in the metropolis with the sole aim of marketing the central region to attract more investors, is also the first community television in Ghana.
Speaking at the function, the Chief Executive Officer of the station, Mr Selete Nyomi, said his aim of setting up the station was to give a voice to the people of Central Region to enable the region develop.
He disclosed that it was the aim of the station to become the leading community television station in the country and that the station has begun developing its facilities to increase productivity.
Mr Nyomi said his outfit has been collaborating with the German Development Service (DED) for the past two years which has been providing them with equipment as well as been training their staff to promote efficiency at the station.
He pointed out that Coastal Television has extended its coverage to five other districts in the region apart from Cape Coast and hopes to cover most communities in the country.
The CEO commended DED, the Central Regional Minister, Municipal Chief Executive of Cape Coast, the Omanhen of the area, the board of directors and staff of the station for the support they have given the station and called on all Cape coasters to help the station expand to solve the numerous problems confronting the region.
The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, noted that Coastal Television has been a great blessing to the region as it has been significant to people in the area.
She advised the station to play a leading role in the region’s development by promoting tourism and enhancing security in the region to make the place safer for investors.
Mrs Doe also advised them to play a lead role in responsible journalism, stay focused and partner various agencies, departments and organizations in the region to bring about sustainable development
She appealed to management of the station to consider showing live coverage of exciting events in the region such as debates between metropolitan and district assemblies, festivals, sporting events as well as school open days to place Cape Coast and the region in general as a leader in community involvement with regards to development.
The Country Director of DED, Mr K Andrascko, said DED was convinced that to develop a country, you have to develop structures in the various communities thus the collaboration between them and the station for the past two years.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins and the Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, all commended the television station for the immense role they are playing to fight for the development of the region.
