The former Campaign Manager of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is currently contending for the National Chairmanship position of the party, Mr. Jake Okanta Obetsebi-Lamptey has promised to be a “full-time and a very active chairman” if given the opportunity.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, who made the promise in a recent interview with the media in Wa, maintained that the chairmanship position in the NPP demanded full-time attention and experience, and thus required a person of his caliber who is experienced and ever prepared to occupy that position.

He disclosed that as part of his strategies to ensure that the NPP comes back to power, he would constantly be in touch with the regional and constituency leadership, motivate them and solicit for their assistance in identifying committed and loyal members of the party to be actively involved in the party’s activities, so that they would be adequately prepared for 2012 campaign and programmes.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said “the reception by the potential delegates so far is very good”, and was happy that they had accepted his message. “What the people are saying is that let’s go for the driver who knows the road”, the chairman aspirant said, referring to himself.

He said among most of the executives, both new and the old ones who were retained, they know his capabilities and the role he played whilst the party was in opposition, and towards the building of the party and successes chalked, and hoped they would give him the chance to lead the party to victory.

When asked about the seeming factionalism within the party, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey observed that the media sometimes built on imaginary things just to promote patronage. He however added that immediately after the selection of a flagbearer, all members of the party would be brought on board to offer their support and to ensure that the party emerges victorious come 2012.

“Having the flag bearer early will give the party a tremendous focus”, he noted, emphasizing that bringing the party back to power now remained paramount to every member and sympathizer of the NPP.
