Check these quack men of God!
Posted by on March 9, 2010 at 9:51 am in EditorialTHE general demeanour of people who parade themselves around claiming to be men of God in the country has been nothing to write home about in recent times. Not a single day passes by without negative news reports about pastors or spiritual heads of churches.
ALTHOUGH Ghana can boast of many internationally recognised and respected members of the clergy, activities of the charlatans lately appears to have eclipsed that of the genuine ones we have in the system.
WHILE we carry shoulder high and commend those who have in one way or the other distinguished themselves from the bad nuts, we must as well be courageous enough to also expose those who draw the name of God in the mud by committing heinous crimes against their congregants.
THE latest story on some of these anti-social behaviours occurred involves one man of God who is the head pastor of the Holy Fire Pentecostal Church at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region.
PROPHET Ogya Nyame, according media reports, hid under the pretence of providing spiritual healing to his female congregants, fondled their breasts and engaged in all kinds of sexual escapades with them to satisfy his libido.
AND confirming the story to the press shortly after the incident, the secretary to the Omanhene of Goaso, Nana Atta Poku, said the pastor was invited to the traditional council to answer queries on the many allegations made against him. The matter, according to Nana Atta Poku, has since been handed over to the Goaso police for further investigations and prosecution.
PASTORS are expected to live exemplary lives for society to emulate and not to engage in devilish acts of this nature.
IT is on this disturbing note that we at Today is calling on the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Association of Charismatic Churches (ACC) in the country to, in the interest of the nation and ensuring that sanity prevails in the house of the lord, take pragmatic measures to remove the bad nuts who only speak and understand the language of the devil.
AND inasmuch as we call for a complete wipeout of these fictitious men of God who have infiltrated the ministry of God with their devilish and demonic acts, Today at the same time urge the public, particularly our Christian brothers and sisters to be wary of these self styled men of God, especially those who go about with all sorts of titles like; Dr. Dr. Prophet, Bishop Bishop, Archbishop Dr. Professor so, so and so, Reverend Prophet Evangelist, Archbishop Professor and all kinds of names and in the end swindle people in the dark.
ALTHOUGH the paper believes that the fight against these fake pastors and prophets would not be that easy since the 1992 Constitution promotes freedom of association, the CCG and the ACCs being the umbrella bodies should ensure some decorum and decency at the sector.
WE at Today would also like to seize the opportunity to urge the law enforcements agencies, particularly the police as well as the judiciary to offer stiffer punishments to these ‘so called men of God’ to deter others who take delight in committing such crimes.
