The Western Regional Executive of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has described as unconstitutional, a claim by a group of supporters of the party in the Ellembelle Constituency, that they had dissolved the nine-member executive steering the affairs of the party in the constituency.
The Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Samuel Gordon Etroo, told this reporter in a telephone interview that the group had no backing in the constitution to take the law into their own hands to dissolve the nine-member executive.
"The CPP does not condone illegality, and we call on the group to hurriedly rescind their decision for the betterment of the party," he said.
The dissolution of the nine executives by the supporters, who describe themselves as ‘Concerned Genuine Members of the CPP,’ comes after the group faulted their leaders for flouting the rules and regulations of the party.
Addressing a press conference at Nkroful to officially dissolve the nine-member executive, the Spokesperson for the group, Mr. Anthony Ackah, noted that the group decided to dissolve the executives, after they defied advice and warnings against preaching the concept of ‘skirt and blouse,’ which was against the party’s constitution.
According to the spokesperson, "it is obvious that if nothing is done to curb this menace, the activities of skirt and blouse will lead to the demise of the CPP."
He added the constituency executive was deceiving the party members into forming an alliance with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which had led to division in the party, since other executives of the party were fiercely against the move.
He mentioned the executives who were campaigning for other party members to form an alliance with the NPP, on grounds that the CPP could not win political power, as the Chairman, Organiser, Mr. Kwesi Andoh, Secretary, Seth Yankey, 2nd Vice Chairman, Seth Yankson, Treasurer, Samuel Akainyah and the Womens Organiser, Elizabeth Morkeh.
The spokesperson further told the reporters that when information about the conduct of the executives reached them, they summoned the affected people to a meeting to explain the rationale behind the preaching of the ‘skirt and blouse’ concept.
And the executives, according to the spokesperson, admitted the offence. The group also showed evidence of how the Treasurer of the party, in the person of Samuel Akainyah, had used an NPP letter head to contest as Chairman of the party in the constituency.
But in a quick response, Mr. Samuel Akainyah told this reporter, in a separate interview, that he had resigned from the CPP.
Spokesperson Ackah told the media that two months after they had petitioned the regional executive of the party to sanction the accused executives for going contrary to the party’s constitution, the latter had failed to apply the disciplinary rod against the executives.
As a result, they decided to dissolve the executive themselves, and replace it with an interim executive committee.
Currently, the interim executive committee is chaired by Mr. Kwaw Anthony Ackah, as Secretary, Lord Cudjoe as Assistant Secretary, and one Kumi as Organiser.
