STORY: FROM MICHAEL SARPONG MFUM, SUNYANI

A Togolese carpenter in his mid 30s, Efo Mawusi, met his untimely death after taking in several tots of locally brewed alcohol, known in Ghanaian parlance as Akpeteshie, and slept without eating.

Today gathered that the victim is a known drunkard at where he stays at Kassadjan in Sunyani.

According to reports, Efo on that fateful day was heavily drunk and had a hectic time entering his room.

A co-tenant upon noticing how Efo had staggered to his room provided him with some food to eat, but it later emerged that he had not taken in any food when his door was forcibly opened by some of his neighbours.

The victim is noted for waking up very early in the neighbourhood for the past 13 years that he had stayed in the vicinity.

But, on that occasion, one Aunty Esi, a good friend of Efo, who saw the condition of the latter on the evening of his death, became suspicious and wondered why Efo had still not woken up.

When the door of his room was forcibly opened, Efo was found lying unconscious on his bed; he was then rushed to the Regional hospital in Sunyani, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased has since been sent to the morgue at the hospital while the search for his relatives continues unabated.

The co-tenants, after several efforts to contact the relatives of the deceased, hit a snag; the residents then adopted the strategy of calling the numbers on the cell phone of the deceased until they finally got in touch with them.
