STORY: FROM JAMES APPIAKORANG JNR., KUMASI

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party has disowned the Techimanhene Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw II, saying they do not know of his membership since he declared during the 2008 campaign era that he was not an NDC sympathizer.

He is said to have ignored the ex President Jerry Rawlings in the heat of the 2008 campaign era when the ex president was paying a visit to Brong Ahafo chiefs.

Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw is alleged to be parading himself as a strong member of the ruling NDC party hence sees the present political terrain in the country as an opportunity to avenge the attempted assassination on his life two years ago by the Tuobodommanhene and his allies.

The aggrieved chief allegedly therefore masterminded the abduction and brutal assault of the Tuobodommanhene after which the latter was taken to the police.

As if his assertion that his party was in power and he could do whatever he wanted without any regard to the rule of law was true, Oseadeayo Ameyaw went about his normal duties while the Tuobodommanhene whose rights were abused was rather asked by the police to write a statement.

It took the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu to whom the Tuobodommanhene owes allegiance to come out criticizing the government and police in the area before the National Security saw the volatility in the area and thus responding appropriately.

Speaking on Fox Fm on Wednesday, the Deputy National Organiser of the ruling NDC Captain Agamba angrily denied the membership of the Techimanhene enquiring what had changed for him to now call himself a member of the NDC.

“We don’t know him to be a member of our party. How come he’s now calling himself an NDC man? Did he not tell ex President Rawlings he’s not a member of our party when he wanted to pay him a courtesy call during the campaign time?

Today what has changed for him to call himself an NDC man? We will not allow ourselves to be dragged into that chieftaincy politics. If they have their issue, they should settle it themselves and not pull us into it”. The NDC Deputy National Organiser told Captain Smart, the host of the program.

Captain Agamba noted that the NDC had decided to as much as possible stay out of chieftaincy issues since the law does not allow chiefs to meddle in partisan politics.
