A 27-year-old block-builder was last Monday handed a 13-year-jail term by a Takoradi Circuit Court for defiling his 13 year-old-niece.
John Krah, pleaded guilty to the charge and asked the court to tamper mercy with justice, but his plea was not taken by the presiding judge, Justice Charles Banfo.
The prosecution team, led by chief Inspector Richard Jabi, told the court that the victim who is a pupil of the Anglican Primary School at Agona Nkwanta lives with her uncle, John Krah, and her grandmother at Agona Nkwanta, a suburb of Takoradi.
According to chief Inspector Jabi, Krapa lured the victim to a nearby bush in their area under the guise of asking the victim to accompany him to his farm. And when they got to a nearby bush John Krah forcibly had sex twice with the victim.
The prosecutor also told the court that the accused on 31-05-2009, around 12.00 p.m., again invited the victim to his room to show her movies but ended up having sex with her.
The accused, according to the prosecutor, warned and threatened the victim not to inform anybody of what had transpired between them, but the victim defied her uncle’s threat and informed her grandmother who reported the matter to the Agona Nkwanta police.
John Krapa, the prosecutor said, absconded from the locality when he got wind that he was being searched for by the police, but was later arrested few days after his return to the community.
