Although the Kufuor administration at the time in power knew the difficulties in revenue collection at the ports, yet they deliberately established two registration companies to cause the country lose a lot of revenue, says, Mr Carl Wilson, Chairman of Castle Confiscated Vehicles Committee.

“Though the NPP government knew the problem at the port in terms of revenue collection at the port, the party at the time in government created two registration companies at the port in addition to the one we had before to deepen the woes of revue collection at the port,” disclosed Mr Wilson.

According to him, these two companies were Ghana Links and ICS, affirming that these were the companies set up by the Kufuor administration to derail the country’s efforts at collecting enough revenue at the port for development projects.
He said as a result of the creation of these two companies a lot of underhand dealings were carried out at the Tema port.
He said a lot of corrupt deals went on from the destination point to the inspection.

He, however, stressed that all of such underhand dealings would not happen if there are vigilant custom officers at the ports.
“All these things will not happen if we have vigilant custom officers stationed at the ports,” emphasised Mr Wilson.
Mr Wilson disclosed that through his hard work he has been able to uncover a whole syndicate at the Tema port who work in tandem to steal state money.

“What I have uncovered at the ports is mind-boggling! There was a whole syndicate networked between shipping companies, destination inspection companies, custom officers, elements of national security and Ghana Port and Harbours security
… If all these five groups work synchronize then there will be corruption. But if one among these groups says no I will not allow it, then there will be no corruption,” noted the chairman of confiscated cars committee.

He went on to assert that what was happening at the Tema port was very sad, maintaining that they constantly come to him noting that they have worked at the ports for 35 years and will therefore not him [Carl Wilson to deny them of their deals which bring them money].

Tema port at the time the NDC took over was totally entangled in big time corruption, he indicated.
…“Tema port is totally corrupt”. And what is happening at our ports is very bad. $80,000 dollars cash was given to me and I said no, I will not take, but rather I would serve my country.

…Stolen car syndicates they come with money and if they cannot bribe you then they will they will use the money and make sure that

The Castle confiscated vehicles committee, according to Mr Wilson, has made headways in the fight against corruption at the port.

However, he admitted that a lot more needed to be done by his team to ensure that the Tema port is rid entirely of corruption.

According to him, Ghana is losing billions of cedis at the port adding that it was imperative that efforts are made to clean the port of corruption.
