NPP man faces expulsion

Discreet inquiries have found evidence that the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) may soon bar Samuel Adjei, the News Editor and Chief Parliamentary Correspondent of the New Democrat newspaper, from reporting from the august house when it resumes from recess on May 18, 2010.

The intended ban, the paper gathered, is as result of the latter’s position as the newly elected youth organiser of the Akyem Oda Constituency branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sources close to the top echelon of the PPC, disclosed to the paper over the weekend that Sammy Adjei’s tag as a staunch member of the NPP contravenes the regulations of the PPC hence the decision to expel him outright.

Although reports have it that there are growing agitation among the executives to have Mr Adjei expelled from the PPC, Edwin Arthur, the Dean of PPC in telephone interview denied knowledge of Sammy Adjei’s current position and gave an indication to act on the matter if his attention is formally drawn to it.

“You are telling me this for the first time, and I must be very frank with you I do not have any idea about what you are telling me. The regulations of the PPC are clear on this matter; if that is the case then Samuel Adjei has no reason to be part of us.
…I will take up this issue when the house resumes from recess and I can promise you that if what you are telling me is right then drastic measures will be enforced to ask him to humbly resign or be sacked from the PPC,” Mr Arthur submitted.

He, however, cited an instance when one Egypt Kudotor, former Parliamentary Correspondent of The Enquirer newspaper was compelled to resign from the PPC when he contested for the position of the Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, he was the one who first raised the issue on the floor of the PPC’s meeting and impressed upon Egypt Kudotor to withdraw his membership stressing that no member is above the constitution of the PPC.

“All of us are guided by the regulations of the PPC’s so as I said earlier measures would be taken to ensure that Sammy Adjei is formally expelled from the PPC,” Edwin Arthur, who doubles as the Editor of The Independent newspaper asserted.

Today’s findings further revealed that Sammy Adjei in a knee-jerk manner was reported to have held talks with some non-executives, but influential members of the PPC, to intercede on his behalf upon assumption of the national assembly in May.
“On the day of recess, Sammy personally came to ask me to speak for him when the matter is raised in the meetings of the PPC, but what I told him was that I cannot guarantee him that because, I am not the person to determine that,” a member of the PPC told Today in confidence.

That notwithstanding, Sammy Adjei, the paper can authoritatively report, voted in the capacity as delegate in the recently held national delegates congress of the NPP in Kumasi, but left the congress ground in dismay when his political Godfather, Nana Ohene Ntow, failed to retain his enviable position as the General Secretary.
