GNA – The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo has called on sports men and women to develop healthy life styles including diligence, commitment, perseverance and discipline to be successful in their chosen careers.
Mr Woyongo made the call during the opening of the 9th Northern Zone Colleges of Education Sports Festival at the St. John Bosco’s College of Education sports grounds at Navrongo in the Upper East Region.
He reminded the participants that the key values that underlined all sports competitions were loyal participation, healthy rivalry and adherence to the rules and regulations of the sporting disciplines.
Mr Woyongo noted that sports was a unifying force that cuts across all sectors of human endeavour that also seeks to bond the participants despite their ethnic, politics, race or culture differences.
The Minister appealed to the participants to use the Festival to strengthen the bond of relationship and unity that exist not only among they the students but to also extend to their Colleges and communities as a whole.
Mr Woyongo advised the students to be role models and lead the crusade to ensure peaceful co-existence among the peoples of the Region, which unfortunately has been a source of worry and concern to the people in and outside the Region.
The Principal of Saint John Bosco’s College of Education, Mr Alfred Abugre Ndago, the host College noted that any meaningful development of the youth must take into cognizance the mental, physical and psychosocial of the participants.
He stressed the need for peace because Sports Festivals were meant to ensure peace, unity and fraternity among the participants and advised the students to avoid violence and cheating.
Mr Ndago advised the participants to be disciplined and to ensure a smooth and successful Festival.

SPORT is EDUCATION – SPORT is HEALTH – SPORT is BUSINESS
I’m not a prophet; however my international experiences in Sport teach me that…
You can’t have a quality product without an international Standard Knowledge.

Before thinks about the profit – you have to invest
Let’s talk about: International Standard Knowledge in:
    a) Physical Education,
Physical education in the secondary schools and senior high schools (the cradle of talents)
Instruction and Training: To develop specific and special training programs for the
    teacher/trainer and talents and
    b) SPORT Administration/Management,
To give Sport the right image and value Sport has to be integrated in ALL Traditional
Festivals and other major regional and national events for selection, regional and national.
N.B.: in the world of sport exist an unwritten law: NO competition – NO motivation.
    c) SPONSORSHIP is investment and the perfect deal for a Sponsor is:
to take part of a quality project e.g.: Real talents a/o successfully athletes, qualified teacher
Trainer and Management (with international Experiences and Knowledge)
N.B.: The winning formula for the Organizer and the Sponsor is TEAM-WORK: to create a
realistic co-operation platform for the sponsors and athletes – The Sponsor wants show in Public
    a) his sensibility for the project/event and b) his products and the athlete wants show his talent a/o
    superiority.

The BEST contribution to motivate the country’s sportsmen and women is
to take out ALL the NEGATIVE influences from Sport like:
personal “carrier” interests, corruption, politics, religion etc
Let’s learn to tolerate each others views. “FAIR PLAY”
