Unlucky escapee in handcuffs arrested at Kasoa
Posted by on April 8, 2010 at 7:27 pm in Court News, Local NewsGNA-Abukaar Sadiq, a 20-year old man, who escaped from the custody of the Ghana Navy in Tema and managed to travel to Nyanyano in Kasoa in handcuffs has been arrested by the Police at Kasoa.
The Kasoa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jordan Quaye, made this known in a statement issued at Kasoa and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.
DSP Quaye said on April 4, 2010, Sadiq approached some welders at their shop at Kasoa to cut-open the handcuffs on both hands but was rather arrested and handed over to the police.
DSP Quaye said when Sadiq was interrogated after his arrest, told the police that he hailed from Takoradi and lived at Tema where he was arrested by the Ghana Navy a few days ago for committing an offence he did not disclose.
The Police Commander said Sadiq claimed that he escaped from Tema, using rags to cover the cuffs and hid himself at Nyanyano at Kasoa.
Feeling extremely uncomfortable with the cuffs on, he attempted to convince some welders at Kasoa to crack the handcuffs but was handed over to a Police patrol which was in the vicinity.
DSP Quaye has therefore appealed to the public to desist from helping jail breakers and other suspected persons.
