A beauty pageant that seeks to give fat ladies a chance in the beauty pageant world dubbed ‘Miss Plump Beauty Pageant’ has successfully been launched in Accra.

The launch of the pageant was on the theme, ‘the true reflection of African beauty for national development.’

According to the organisers of the event, Miss plump is a pageant with a difference that seeks to portray what true African beauty should personify and represent in national development.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mrs Dorothy Onny, who stood in for Hon. Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Minister for Women and Children Affairs commended the organisers of the event and pledged her ministry’s support for such laudable projects.

“I see this beauty pageant as the mother of all beauty pageants which I believe will serve as a catalyst to generate interest in women to contribute in diverse ways to national development,” she emphasized.

She said Miss plump would seek to link true reflection of African beauty and will in no doubt awaken her social, economic and political roles that are crucial for development.

Miss Onny said the pageant will also acknowledge the important roles women play in national development.

“The African beauty to be crowned at the end of this pageant must be one that will take up the mantle of motherhood within her community and positively affect the lives of people around her.

…She should be a woman who is no longer relegated to the background but a woman who is conscious of her rights and privileges and is informed that it is her right to enjoy equal opportunities with her male counterparts,” she expressed.
