Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the leadership of the party to call Mr. Alan Kyerematen, another of the presidential aspirants to order, stressing that the way Mr Kyerematen was going about his campaign was inimical to the unity of the party.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng explained that Mr Kyerematen’s continuous verbal attacks on Nana Akufo-Addo’s personality are not good for the party.
This, he said, could bring disunity in the party.
According to him, Mr Kyeremanten has no moral right to condemn Nana Addo and his 2008 campaign team.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng, who was speaking on Accra-based Adom Fm, expressed optimism that the NPP will recapture power in the 2012 general election.
“…NPP, I believe will come back to power in 2012 so there is the need to conduct a clean campaign devoid of personal attacks and insults. We the flag bearer aspirants must conduct clean campaigns,” Frimpong-Boateng advised.
He cautioned that if Mr Kyerematen does not heed his call and continues to engage in campaign of attacks and vilifications, he
[Mr Kyerematen] will further be deepening the Alan/Nana factions existing in the party.
He said the consequences of such actions could ruin the chances of the NPP in 2012.
For his part, Ghana’s renowned pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch, Mr Ben Ephson, recalled that the NPP lost the 2008 election due to mistakes made by the leadership of the party.
He said though the chances of the NPP are bright in 2012 when Ghana goes to the polls it would require a great deal of team work among the rank and file of the party to ensure that victory is certain.
