CID detective course begins

The Criminal Investigative Department (CID) has began a six-week intensive detective course with about fifty participants drawn from five different regions which include Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti, Central, Western and Volta regions.

DCOP Frank Adu Poku addressing the participants at the workshop decried the high rate of crime in the Ghanaian society which according to him was becoming so complex and complicated that the need for regular up-grading of skills of CID officers was crucial in fighting the upsurge in crime.

“As detectives, we need to acquaint ourselves with the latest technological advancement in policing including the latest forensic techniques so as to ward-off threat to civil liberties caused by rapidly advancing technology,” he emphasized.

He expressed his profound gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye, putting initiatives of this nature in place to improve policing standards in the country.

DCOP Frank Adu-Poku urged participants to give full attention to the course and participate fully in all discussions in order to be good detectives.

He disclosed that certificates will be awarded to participants as detectives for participating in the course at the end of the workshop.

“It is my expectation that participants will apply themselves diligently to the task at hand and come out successfully since they have the privilege to be giving detailed lessons in the course of the workshop,” he noted.

He revealed that participants will upgrade their skills in areas such as crime detection techniques, intelligence gathering, crime scene processing, cultivation and handling of informants, criminal investigations, criminal law, criminal procedure, human rights, report writing among other things.

“It is anticipated that the benefits you will derive from this training programme would go a long way to enhance your skills and competencies, thereby improving the calibre of personnel in the police CID,” Mr Frank Adu Poku maintained.
