Switch on the light and shine

One special gift which every Christian should aspire to receive from God is discernment. The perceptive ability and the revelation knowledge which enhance the understanding of the scriptures with divine enablement for appreciating the word of God and its true application is the impetus for sound spirituality. The deep understanding and appraisal of God’s word and its application, makes Christianity interesting, enjoyable and result oriented.
Now, let us examine a particular verse in the Bible which needs to be understood in order to benefit from its spiritual purpose and significance. Mathew 5 verse 14-16 … “Jesus said to us, you are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden, neither do people light a lamb and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and praise your father in heaven.
What is the light?
The light Jesus spoke about is the potential, ability and greatness which God has deposited inside every one He created. The light is the spiritual base which supplies inspiration for a successful Christian life. A good Christian life is characterised by the following: good character and attitude, and the love of God and neighbours, including acts of worship and praise, prayer and cordial relationship with God.
God in His wisdom has bestowed us these attributes, but they cannot be functional unless we activate and switch them on. For instance, a house which has been connected with electricity with the meter attached. If the owner of the house returns home in the night with a friend, and this friend notices that there is light in other houses around except his host’s apartment, he may ask, my friend, don’t you have light in your house? The host will reply affirmatively Yes, I have light. Yes there is light, but the house is in darkness because the owner has not switch on the light. It is after he might have switched on the light that the entire house will be illuminated
Switch on the light
In the light of the above illustration, it is obvious that the light which God has put inside us can only shine and be productive if it is switch on. When the potential in us are maximally activated, we would be able to reach the expected destination. Imagine a brand new car packed in the garage without any driver starting the engine; definitely the car will remain static. It cannot move. The manufacturer has produced the car for use, but it is the duty of the owner to drive or employ a driver to drive it.
Therefore, it is important to indentify our God given vision, nurture it with zeal; purpose and determination, and then pursue it to the fullest. For instance, if a person has been destined to be a doctor, while in the elementary and secondary school, his love and passion for science subjects would be so visible even at that level; certain traits of a doctor such as, caring for the sick, critical analysis of medical apparatus in the laboratory will be noticeable.
If God has planted a great doctor in a person, but the person hates science subjects, dislikes hospitals, and cannot stand the sight of blood and sick people, certainly such a person may not tap to the fullest the potential and greatness which God has released on his destiny.
How can we switch on the light?
A) By receiving the word
By receiving the words, I mean, accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Having absolute faith and depending on God for everything. Salvation which comes through faith in God would enable the latent potential in you blossom without restriction, thereby attracting prosperity which originates from Christ.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, all things were made, without him; nothing was made that has been made. In him was life and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it”… John 1 verse 1-5. Jesus Christ himself is the light; therefore, if anyone accepts him into his life, he becomes an embodiment of supernatural abilities which will make him first amongst equals.
Such a person will live by the spirit of God and also operate in the dimension and frequency God himself operates. God’s word mixed with his spirit brings about great accomplishment and fulfilled life. Life without Jesus is an empty, hopeless and meaningless existence. Therefore, allow him to be the Governor of your life so that he can put meaning into your
life.
B) Apply God’s word daily
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path. This statement was made by David, and Job also said I cherish the word of God more than my food. Both David and Job realized the importance of God in their lives; hence they applied it in their daily lives for guidance, protection, direction, and blessing.
The direct route to salvation and prosperity is total application of God’s word and allowing him to govern us. Not only must we be the hearers of the word alone, we should also be the doers as well by faith. Our faith in God should not be questionable, it must be constant, stable and firmly rooted in God because God’s word is useful for correction, rebuking and training in righteousness.
The principles of righteousness, holiness which lead to salvation, prosperity, good neighbourliness, and moral virtues are clearly listed in the bible as guide to those who want to live a fulfilled life. As you faithfully and truthfully practise and maintain good relationship with God through practical application of His teachings in good character and Christian virtues, you will become an invaluable agent of positive change to your families, friends, and colleagues. Your light will illuminates and shine, purging out and overcoming darkness around you.
Light overcomes darkness
A pregnant woman under normal circumstance is expected to give birth after nine months. In the same way, if a person is pregnant with light and the word of God, certainly, at maturity, that person should be able to deliver and release what has been hidden in him for the benefit of the world and the people around him.
At this stage, the person will be so much concerned about the sufferings of the people, thinking about the lost souls and how to bring them back to God. He will become an agent of salvation. He will consider his success and blessings as gift of God which must be shared with the less- privileged.
He cannot be selfish with his salvation experiences. He wants to share it with others so that through him many people will also be saved. He will become a mirror of life, an evangelist, ambassador and representative of God. Through him, many people will be blessed, promoted to higher levels.
In their fields of endeavour, they will always remain incomparable and always on top. Brethren, I urge you to arise and shine, for the glory of the Lord is in you. It is time to shine again. You must maximize your potential and destiny so that you can be a blessing unto your generation. That little light inside you must shine in Jesus name. Look inward into your inner self; identify who you are in Christ. Get ready for action with full force and determination. Believe in your heart that you are what God says you are and that you can accomplish everything He has planned for you. GOD BLESS YOU.
